The 1st Annual Candidacy Summit for the Missouri Annual Conference is set for August 1-3, 2013 at Camp Jo-Ota. This event is for persons in the candidacy process. The weekend will include an introduction to the conference, worship, spiritual formation, psychological evaluations, PEER GROUP with mentors, etc.

Perceive call to ministry
Member of any UMC or UM campus ministry for one year (¶ 310.1.a)
Contact home church Pastor

Read and discuss one of three books with a lay or clergy liaison
- The Christian As Minister (recommended, not required). You and your “liaison” may also look at other resources found on www.thecalltoministry.org.

Ask District Superintendent if you may begin candidacy
- Send letter to District Superintendent (¶ 310.1.b)
- Send statement of call to District Superintendent (¶ 310.1.b)

District Superintendent interviews and approves candidacy
Pay $75 candidacy fee to GBHEM online. You will receive Fulfilling God’s Call: Guidelines for Candidacy from GBHEM. You will begin to work through this book at the Candidacy Summit with your mentor and peer group.
Complete Candidacy Summit application; DS signs
Register online for the Candidacy Summit at www.moumethodist.org. Pay $75 fee by June 25, 2013
Complete Forms. The forms can be found on the Conference Website, www.moumethodist.org, (under the Offices tab, Pastoral Excellence) or at www.thecalltoministry.org. Originals should be submitted by the candidate to the district office. Make copies for yourself.
- Complete Personal and Professional references list (before psychological testing at the summit)
- Biographical Information Form (Form #102)
- Candidate’s disclosure from (Form #114), notarized
- Waiver of access to personal file
- Medical Report of Ministerial Candidate (Form #103)
- Missouri Annual Conference BOM Screening Packet
- Missouri Conference Safe Sanctuary certification letter
Before the Candidacy Summit, do homework in Fulfilling God’s Call.
- Read pages 11-17
- Read and respond to questions on pages 33-47
- Read and respond to questions on pages 79-97
- candidacy file and keep copies of all forms completed and all work submitted
- Attend Candidacy Summit and continue steps as an “Exploring Candidate

Complete DISC profile (link will be emailed to you from Jenny Gragg, jgragg@moumethodist.org) you must bring the results to the retreat

After you have finished your peer mentor group and the candidacy summit, you will need to request an interview with the Pastor/Staff Parish Relations Committee of your local church or equivalent in your ministry setting. You will continue with the candidacy program towards your academic requirements and connection with the district committee.

Your pastor will be able to help you contact your District Superintendent (DS) (link to Conference website info on Districts http://www.moumethodist.org/districts ). Let your DS know that you would like to enroll in the candidacy process. You will also be connected to your District Committee on Ordained Ministry (dCOM).

We celebrate the movement of God in your life that has brought you to this point. To be faithful to God and faithful also to those who sense a call, the United Methodist Church has many steps in this process of discernment. The intent of this process is to insure that both the candidate and the church affirm the same call to public ministry. We recommend that you speak with your pastor and read; we have a list of recommended books on our Resources page. Talk with your family, friends or another ordained clergy. Share your thoughts and plans with these people and ask their advice. How do they see you sharing your skills, gifts and talents with others?
